Ambient shoegaze? Genre confusion delivers sultry pleasures on: Kevin Blake – Heartsines #Ambient #Shoegaze

I was never really one for shoegaze, even when it came around the first time. Ride? Slowdive? Whatever. So, a track pitched as downtempo and shoegaze nearly ended up in the discarded pile. So glad I didn’t. Ireland’s Kevin Blake delivers a sophisticated and beguiling track.

The Dublin based producer clearly has a bit of a Warp / Ninja Tune background since Heartsines comes from that ability to pull electronica into unexpected shapes and areas. Synths bleep and bloop around in shifting shapes. The beats veer from 80s indie syndrum to a more percussive early electronica. This is dreamy whilst being endlessly restless.

As the track develops the synths morph into more strident areas and the whole thing takes on that dazed shoegaze feel. Forever strung out, seeing the world through a curtain fringe. This heart needs a restart.

A melancholic track for those with bruised hearts and sleep-deprived eyes.
