Before Christmas fades completely here’s an excellent cover from The Paper Sea – Christmas Time Is Here (Vince Guaraldi Trio) #Ambient

I don’t usually post seasonal tunes. But this cover of Christmas Time Is Here by the Vince Guaraldi Trio by The Paper Sea was too good to pass by. It stands superbly on its own as a beautiful Ambient track.

The Paper Sea is the solo project of Jared Matt Greenberg, cornet player and keyboardist for the post-rock quintet Whale Fall. The Paper Sea is an intimate low key project. This cover version is very much in that vein.

The original of Christmas Time Is Here is a perky number filled with Christmas spice and lounge jazz of the finest kind. The Paper Sea’s version is very much a late night wee small hours version. It’s a Christmas of being alone. But not minding.

The tune embraces Ambient sounds and textures. Everything is understated. It’s played on Wurlitzer electric piano with effects. This gives it a feel of nostalgia but without being trapped by it. The tube is beautifully spaced and spacey.

Perfect at any time of year.
