It’s Friday. Let’s break with Smartmunkee and S.O.S.
Smartmunkee is an independent producer from Cornwall, UK who has been producing music for some years. He’s got an ear for a hook – that’s for sure. He says “Music should take you on a journey.” And he delivers.
S.O.S is the new single, released in January. It is taken from Smartmunkee’s upcoming fourth album ‘Stand Up And Listen’.
The track has a deceptively melodic and dreamy start before things get acidic. And then amid the wailing and increasingly frantic sounds a blizzard of breakbeats arrive. Then it all kicks off.
There’s no mucking about here. The spacey, slightly sci-fi, synths get overtaken by the hardcore percussion. And yet that ear for a hook is never forgotten and this has a brilliantly catch feel.
Big breakbeat grins all round. Who’s a clever munkee?
