PATTERNS IN PLASTIC

A review by D of a couple of ambient reworks by Patterns In Plastic. Free download.

The Deftones ‘Be Quiet and Drive (far away)’ and Radiohead’s ‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi’ are thoroughly reworked by Patterns in Plastic and the results are most enchanting. ‘Be Quiet…’ is the more impressive, by virtue of its transformation from a thrashing, pounding, bulldozer of a song into an unexpectedly spaced out delight. Stripped back and slowed almost to a standstill, a seductive female vocal and gently strummed guitar undulating throughout, this pretty much completely abandons the original which all but disappears into the misty ether. Absolutely sublime. Similarly, ‘Weird Fishes’ possesses a dreamlike quality, again slowed down but still retaining the gently stuttering, percussive beat of the original, Yorke’s echoing vocals providing a mournful, languid and slightly eerie narrative. Lovely stuff.

Blurb: Patterns In Plastic are a duo from Newcastle who probably sound like guitars, computers and voices, and maybe, a bit like dreams. Whatever that means.

  1. Most flattering review! thanks man! the Vocals on both tracks are actually ours, just to clear that up! No samples included.

  2. […] might remember D reviewed PIP’s ambient covers of The Deftones and Radiohead back here. They’re back with a new original for free […]
