LOST IN MY INBOX: Flunk: The Songs We Sing – Best Of Remixes 2002-2012

Ah Flunk. Lovely downtempo version of New Order’s Blue Monday a while back. Can it really be 10 years ago? Seems like it, with this Best Of release out. A version of their classic Blue Monday, remixed by Blue States, to listen and a Kohib remix for you lucky people as exclusive FREE download.

Flunk were downtempo, folky Norwegians who had a hit with their downtempo, folky cover of New Order’s Blue Monday. There were a number of remixes around that time but none were particularly successful. Here’s another go by Blue States, who is Andy Dragazis. He did the classic Nothing Changes Under The Sun in 2000 (see here) but never repeated that success. This remix is gorgeous and sounds very much like something from Nothing Changes… with its delayed and trembling guitar.

And a newer Norwegian remixer, Kohib, who featured recently with his Solar Day EP (here) provides the free remix. Common Sense retains Anja’s distinctive vocals but the music goes more digital and lost, space epic. Cracking downtempo.

Blurb: Flunk consists of Anja Øyen Vister (vocals), Jo Bakke (guitar) and Ulf Nygaard (electronics), along with associated member Erik Ruud (drums). In the end of April, it is 10 years since their debut album “For Sleepyheads Only” was released, and to celebrate this, the compilation “The Songs We Sing” is released, summing up their career so far. In addition to the ordinary CD and download version, a double digital deluxe-version is available, including a bonus album compiling the best of the Flunk remixes. This set is the first four tracks on the bonus album.
