Better dead than Acid Ted

dropacid-copy1

Apparently some people are assuming this blog is the same as the artist Acid Ted. So, for anyone who’s confused, this blog is nothing to do with Acid Ted the artist.

The phrase Acid Ted is a generic term, like punk or rocker. It comes from the late 80s and I associate it with the Boys Own fanzine. As Simon Reynolds puts it “The “acid ted” was the timewarp kid who wasn’t hip enough to change with the times. The idea was that the neophte ravers in bandanas and Day-Glo T-Shirts shouting “acieed!” and dancing on the tables at the tacky nightclub Camden Palace were the equivalent of forty-year old teddy boys with fifties-style rockabilly quiffs, drainpipes and brothel creepers.”

When I came to start the blog I needed a name and a picture header. I was taken by the Boys Own slogan of “better dead than acid ted” and since I was starting a blog about 90s dance music that term seemed to fit me. As for the picture, I have always liked D’s Drop Acid not Bombs picture for Boys Own and so the whole thing tied up nicely.

It took me some while after starting the blog to realise that there was an artist who had also used the Acid Ted name (Nigel Price) and had been doing so since 1999. I did try to contact him a couple of times but it was much later that we eventually made contact. He’s been very generous about my use of the name. But has said “i dont mind you nicking my name! just no music releases ok! Lol!!!;)

Anyhow, he has a new tune (choon?) coming out. This starts with big techno drums and whomps its way into your  life before adding a lairy vocal. It’s not until half way through that the acid 303s are unleashed and the whole thing moves into ‘mental’ hyper territory.

and for free download an oldskool rave mix

There’s a load more of his tunes at 909London.
