Substrate Opalescent from Transient XO by Sollem Den

New Zealand’s Sollem Den comes over all Aphex Twin ambient on Substrate Opalescent. Rippling synths, just a touch out of kilter, wobble by and beats come as shards of sound. An intricate track that sounds far longer than the three and a half minutes for which it runs. Maybe that’s what Sollem Den mean when he (I’m assuming it’s a he) says “I produce electronic music that exists in a liminal space between House and more experimental beat music.” To save you looking up what liminal space is, I’ve done it for you. Apparently, a liminal space is the time between the ‘what was’ and the ‘next.’ It is a place of transition, waiting, and not knowing. Well, this is worth waiting for and definitely worth knowing. Expand your thresholds now.
