Plastic palm trees, plastic summer, and prog house with Analog Sol – Pastel Palms

Looks like we will have to forget having a summer in the UK. Time to head indoors, get the hammock out and turn the sun lamp on. Pretend we’re having a heatwave. Or better still listen to Analog Sol and pretend that turned up jacket sleeves, pastels and Miami Vice are the in thing with Pastel Palms’ mix of prog house and the spirit on Jan Hammer.

Analog Sol is from Barcelona but in love with techno and the 80s. His biog says “Analog Sol combines vintage synths, 80’s nostalgia, and a love of sunset parties to keep the spirit of the underground alive. Born in Sydney and based in Barcelona, he has performed in over thirty countries, bringing his thrilling mix of Melodic Techno, Afro-House, and Caribbean vibes to a worldwide audience.”

Here’s new track Pastel Palms. This is unashamedly retro. It flaunts its 80s references in such a brazen manner that the whole thing works brilliantly. Even though it really shouldn’t. That’s because the sincerity is welded together with a wonderful sense of and use of uplifting melodies. Such that you can’t but help be carried along on a wave of pina coladas.

The track opens with those classic synthetic handclap beats before a synth straight out of a Miami Vice soundtrack comes along to whisk you off to the beach. This track doesn’t know how to be sad. It’s constantly uplifting with epic and euphoric chords.

But there’s also a clever flow to the track that gives the track variation and ongoing interest. Pianos come in, drop out, organ chords flash around slicker than a Ferrari Testarossa crushing on the seafront.

Let the sea breeze ruffle your hair, slip into your loafers and have an ice cool groove along to this wonderful summery track.
