Drum and bass with: Silent Local – We Could

For those of us not at Glasto and tired of the wall to wall BBC coverage here’s a rather fine drum and bass track from Silent Local.

Silent Local is a New Zealand producer of Jazz infused Liquid D&B. Here’s his new single We Could. The track is described as “half time liquid D&B ambient deep base” which sounds like someone wanting to cover all bases. And yet there is truth here.

We Could spends its whole time teetering on the edge. It’s on the edge of a supremely evil bass line that gives the track real presence and a dynamic punch. And yet that’s offset by a delicately beautiful vocal (no idea who she is).

The beats have a Spartan precision that’s pretty astringent and yet the melodies are lush and languid. More yin and yang. A track that’s edgy but also almost pop.

A fantastic example of the possibilities of liquid drum and bass to captivate and yet lull you into spaciness.
