Language is a cracked kettle on which we beat out tunes for bears to dance to, while all the time we long to move the stars to pity

is your kettle on

The kettle is boiling us a mess of 808 808 808 808 808 808ssssssssssssssssssssssss

Love a bit of 808 and Thomas Schumacher brings us a load of these in his Is Your Kettle On? and its remixes. There’s something fantastically old skool and uncomplicated about the original club mix. It hisses and whubbs fabulously. Douglas Greed gives it more of a jerky house feel. Kai Von Glasgow smooths everything out to give a R&B/House tune. Not sure about this one. Finally, Acid Ted favourite Kris Menace gives it a synthy spin. A fine remix but still doesn’t match the original.

Blurb: The second single release from Thomas Schumachers critically acclaimed album STAND UP is a collaboration featuring none other than the fabulous Chelonis R. Jones. Chelonis is an electropop musician, painter, poet, singer, songwriter and producer. Born and raised in California and New York, he is currently living in Europe. Thomas and Chelonis first crossed paths when Thomas remixed his song”Black Sabrina” in 2005 and again while they were releasing on Get Physical. Right at the begining of the recordings for STAND UP, Thomas produced a playback specifically with Chelonis in mind, imagining his unmistakable falsetto voice, referencing Curtis Mayfield. Chelonis was immediately on board and very soon after delivered the amazing performace that is, IS YOUR KETTLE ON? The original album version is a sparse piece of Electronica driven by an old school, downtempo 808 beat with an outstanding, emotional vocal performance from Chelonis R. Jones. With remixes from Kris Menace, Douglas Greed, Kai von Glasow and Thomas Schumacher himself, the fifth release on Electric Ballroom will be out on July 11th 2013.

  1. Best post title EVER. It takes a genius to quote Flaubert in reviewing a techno track. Chapeau!
