NEW MUSIC: RIVIERA

New EP out soon from Riviera. That’s Riviera on it’s own. Not Bobby Riviera. That’s someone different. Best not forget it or she’ll be after you.

We had Riviera’s remix of The Temptations the other day – see here – which I damned with faint praise as bar music. Her new EP – 40 Thieves – is out on 26 Feb and I was quite prepared to damn this in the same way. But actually it is much better than last time’s slightly lazy remix would suggest. The original mix starts with a sense of the Maghreb whilst avoiding the pastiche route. But it doesn’t forget this is a track for the contemporary dancefloor by bringing in a nice deep baseline. Doesn’t quite achieve the full wigout I’d want for the climax but good stuff nonetheless.
