RIVIERA / BOMBAMAN REMIX

You may remember that we had the original mix of Riviera’s 40 Thieves a couple of weeks or so ago – see here. This is now being released in remix form – with Bombaman as the featured remixer. Available to listen and download … with a but.

I said “The original mix starts with a sense of the Maghreb whilst avoiding the pastiche route. But it doesn’t forget this is a track for the contemporary dancefloor by bringing in a nice deep baseline.” The remix is described as a dubstep mix. But isn’t everything these days. Bombaman dumps the vaguely Eastern feel of the original, except for brief periods at the beginning and end. Instead, it concentrates on a downtempo yet hard feel, with minimal beats. This is laced with a repeated female sample refrain. Hypnotically insistent. Minimal but good.

And the but? The streaming version is 320kbps but the download is only 80kbps. Not sure why they bothered. And it’s time limited.
