25TH OF MAY – WHAT’S GOING ON?
A welcome return (for me at least) of Scouse agit dance popsters The 25th of May and their classic “What’s Going On?”. This was their first third single (all 1991) and the unsubtle sleeve was a bold statement of intent. For non-UK readers, the man holding the guns is the Prime Minister of the time, the reference is the Gulf War and FTRTV on the bullet proof vest is Fuck The Right To Vote. The lyrics are equally direct. Despite all the politics, this still delivers a cracking tune to back it up – dance and guitars coming together brilliantly.
The 25th of May – What’s Going On? (Marvin Mix)
Great track from a great band.
I was always peturbed, however, by FTRTV. Saying ‘fuck off’ to any right is the first step towards accepting the sort of state that any left-thinking person should be fighting against.
Also, WGO was their 3rd single.

WGO is listed first in discogs but checking catalogue numbers I think you’re right.
