REMIXING CLASSICS: GUS GUS – POLYESTERDAY (DIRTYHERTZ REMIX)
Carl Craig’s remix of Gus Gus’ Polyesterday is one of my favourite tracks. I therefore approached Dirtyhertz’ remix of the remix with some trepidation, not least since his remix of Stereo MCs Connected was so awful I couldn’t post it (here) and a complete contrast to how good was his remix of Orbital’s Halcyon (here).
As with the remix of Halcyon, this doesn’t represent a total overhaul but a rework. This retains the Gus Gus vocal and the sense of space which Carl Craig injected. It’s a bit more twangy on the bass, a bit more acidic and with more uptempo drums aimed at the discerning dancefloor. A hit.
