REMIXING CLASSICS: OCTAVE ONE

Some more classic techno gets remixed. Another in the Octave One remixes series. This time Cari Lekebusch and Alexander Kowalski get to play. I’m going to focus on the latter. Alexander takes the remix into an unusual direction, mixing some classic Detroit techno, complete with finger clicks, with some soulful vocals. There is something very, very Carl Craig about the way that this builds slowly and the overall soundscape. And sounding like Carl is never a bad thing. Listen only. Edit: sorry clip only now at artist’s request.

OCTAVE ONE – I NEED RELEASE (ALEXANDER KOWALSKI REMIX)

Blurb: 430 West continues to celebrate its 20-year history, allowing two more Octave One classics to get the remix treatment from some of the Burden brothers’ favourite artists. For the latest instalment, Sweden’s Cari Lekebusch takes on ‘Love and Hate’ originally released on Octave One’s ‘Off The Grid EP’ on Berlin’s seminal Tresor Records. Which takes us neatly on to another Tresor (and Kanzleramt) artist, Berlin resident Alexander Kowalski who restyles ‘I Need Release’. Featuring vocals from Ann Saunderson, it was the first release taken from Octave One’s ‘Summers on Jupiter’ album.
