NEW MUSIC: ARKARNA – STRANGE CREATURES

Arkarna first featured here more than three years ago (here) during my alphabetical adventure. They had a big hit, did some remixes and then seemed to have faded. When I was researching another post at the start of the year (here), I was surprised to find that they’d reformed. Here’s a fruit of their new work.

Strange Creatures still attempts to straddle the dance/rock borders. It has a conventional song structure and vocal. But the synths and the almost-dubstep bass drive it in a different direction. This sort of wants a piece of the Pendulum market but, sadly, this track doesn’t quite hit the mark squarely enough. But good to have you back.

Blurb: Arkarna is a partnership between producer and singer Ollie Jacobs, alongside guitarist and songwriter Matt Hart. The pair met a few years back when they were working alongside a number of successful pop acts, before deciding to make music together. The partnership proved very fruitful, and rather excitingly transfers perfectly from the studio into the live arena. They are set to release their new album next year. For Ollie, Arkarna isn’t a new thing. He found a great deal of worldwide success with their platinum selling debut album ‘Fresh Meat’ back in 1997. Ollie became disillusioned with the music industry. Being signed to a major label had it’s downsides and he felt he was trying to be shaped into something that didn’t suit who he was. So he backed out of the limelight and reclused into the haven of his studio, where he produced and mixed many successful tracks for other artists. It was only after working with Matt that he knew that it was time to make his own music again.
