DNB: Kenny Larkin – Loop 2 (Alex Reece Remix)

Last week we had a dnb remix of indie converts Everything But The Girl. Today, a dnb remix of techno third waver Kenny Larkin. This is from 1996.

Kenny Larkin’s work tends to be to the more machine end of techno, with less of the lushness and strings that characterises someone like Carl Craig’s work. Although from Detroit, musically his work sits between Detroit and Chicago. More on Kenny here. Loop 2 is a track from the 1995 album Metaphor, his second album, released on R&S. This track is taken from the 12″ release, which also had a remix by Luke Slater.

Alex Reece, who apeared earlier in this series, started in dnb before switching to techno. More here. But for this remix, he’s firmly in dnb territory. He gives Kenny Larkin’s austere original some real depth and warmth with strings and skippy beats to produce a really lovely relaxing remix.
