Cody Alan – No Cheese At This End/This Maze Is Too Long

Since we’ve had a fairly IDM week, here’s some more from SF-born but NYC-based Cody Alan. Free download.

No Cheese is a gentle piece of downtempo with muted clattery drums and enough melody to weave to the end. A bit like something from Artificial Intelligence era Warp. His blurb talks about conducting “experiments” and some of his other tracks sound it, in that they are more for the head and chin stroking than for listening and enjoying, and offputting as a result.

This track – Sciencefriction – also has a wonky charm:

Blurb: Cody Alan was born in the psychedelic atmosphere of San Francisco and currently resides in the bustling belly of New York City. Obsessed with the textures and sounds of the world, he conducts experiments in a variety of styles such as IDM, hip-hop, and downtempo in order to quench his appetite for expression. On his forthcoming e.p. “Gossamer”, featuring Wildkat, Cody Alan further tinkers at and builds on the bridges between hip-hop and electronic dance music.
