Slumberjacks – Cody Alan and Wildkat

New York-based Cody Alan has appeared here before. His work is IDM but with some hip hop influences. Here’s a piece to listen, which forms part of work done for a modern dance piece.

Being a philistine, I’d go a long way to avoid modern dance. A very long way. And the start of this video, with its womb pretensions, certainly helps reinforce my prejudices. But Slumberjacks, from the second half of the video is really nice. No real beats but a rhythm track backed with out of phase synthesisers gives this piece a gentle soft focus quality.

Blurb: “From the Earlier” is a dance/film collaboration between The Youth Movement Collective and Director and Cinematographer Jake Saner. The film is set to an original score by Cody Alan. It was made as a stand-alone piece as well as the introductory portion of the evening length dance piece “The Crooked” that premiered on May 30th, 2012.
