More Weatherall and some Elgar.

There’s another Weatherall remix coming in at #18, with his Intensity remix of Finitribe’s 101 from 1991. The mix was on the B side of the original vinyl (it wasn’t on the CD version) but is the best of the Weatherall remixes for this track. It’s the piano line and the lazy dub that really take this to be “pleasures of the highest state“.

And so to Elgar. Rob Dougan really and his 1995 classic Clubbed To Death. I loved the original release but it didn’t really get wider attention until it was used in The Matrix (1999). The short strings introduction is an excerpt from the first movement of Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and the piano solo is improvised around Enigma Variations as well.

There are loads of mixes covering everything from techno, to drum and bass to this breaks mix from Hybrid

But it’s Dougan’s own mixes that are the best and get its place in this run down:
