50/fifty Coming Down: #14 and #13

pearse

Lemon Jelly and Nightmares on Wax.

At #14, the wonderful Lemon Jelly (Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen), who have been on hiatus since 2008. Another of those acts for whom I was spoilt for choice. Should it be Soft or King Raam? In the end, I plumped for The Staunton Lick (1999). I just love the use of the guitar over those lazy beats. It uses a sample from Basic Plucking Of The Ballad Lick performed by John Pearse.

At #13, one hit wonders Olive and their 1996 track You’re Not Alone, in its Nightmares on Wax guise. The better-known remix is by Paul Oakenfold in 1997, which ups the tempo of the original. This version from the original release goes in the opposite direction by slowing it down into a dubbed out piece.
