Smoke City – Underwater Love (Eat More Cake Remix)

Here’s a track from 1997 given an Eat More Cake remix. They do like their good time, uncomplicated, tunes to remix. This samba-influenced tune by English group Smoke City is no exception. Free download

The original track was a minor hit and then really made it big through being included on a Levi’s advert. It eventually gt to #4 in the UK charts. The original track is a pretty laid back chill out compilation-type tune. I was not a big fan, though I’m sure I have it on a comp somewhere. This EMC remix focuses on the pleasures of the acoustic guitar line and vocal before a surprisingly fat beat comes in at the break. The end result is a whole lot less samba than the original and much more akin to French house or nu disco.
