Cuttooth feat. Hitomi – Illusion Symptom (Mr Bird Remix)

cuttoothremixed

There are many things for which I am grateful to Cuttooth. In the main, these are his downtempo tunes. But on this occasion, for introducing me to the concept of ‘dub-hop’ and through that to the charming phenomenon of ‘blueballs’. Name your price download.

Dub-hop is the description of this remix. And being older chap not in touch with the lingua franca of the modern young person, I had to resort to the urban dictionary in order to check this new genre. They define it as “The dirtiness of dubstep making babies with the smoother sexiness of hiphop.” which is all straightforward enough. But my education was enlivened by this situational use of the term:

Bro 1: “wanna listen to some dubstep or hiphop?”

Bro 2: “yo B, just throw on some Dubhop!”

Bro 1: “wtf?! No! That’ll just give me blueballs! Pick one or the other man..”

Which led me to look up “blueballs“, and made me wish I hadn’t.

Right. The tune. It’s a remix from the Cuttooth album which we had back here. The mood remains relaxed and unhurried. But things are less lush with the heavy hip hop drum beat setting the mood and the crunch of electronics filling in the gaps. The wooziness of trip hop remains but overset with urban angst.

Blurb: New Barely Breaking Even signing Mr Bird comes through with a dub-hop flip of Cuttooth’s Illusion Symptom, which features vocals by Kiki Hitomi.
