Gion – You

gionyou

Italy’s Gion (Gianmarco Lorifice) gives us some deep and funky house with ‘You’ and a couple of superior mixes to boot.

The original takes its time to get going, the subdued rhythm clicking along before the main beat floods in and a pleasant, if unexceptional, house track takes shape. Harold Heath’s mix fattens up the bass and funk and adds some twinkly synth work, thereby turning it into an altogether more adventurous sound. Very danceable. Best track by some way, however, is the Priyesh mix, a delightful hybrid of swirling synths, crisp beats and nicely rumbling bass providing a rich, smooth and impressive variation that should bring a smile to your face and a swing in your hips.

Italy is the next destination on Wind Horse Records’ global journey, and it is there that prolific DJ / producer Gianmarco Lorefice jumps on board. Recording under the name Gion, Gianmarco has actively released tracks over the past few years for Soulman, Dutchie Music, and Irma, with his hard work leading to the “Don’t Do It For Money” single released by the legendary Nervous Records. The simply titled “You” is Gion’s debut single for Wind Horse and it certainly follows the ethos of the India-based house music label. Its classic sounding rhythm is like a signal to the dance floor – a call to partake in funky movement – and a filtered chord riff further displays the cut’s old school influence. But the sound merges with that of contemporary floors through its spacious, dramatic breakdown and sonically pleasing low end drive. “You” is meant to be intimate and introspective, as reflected my the title, and accomplishes this in a masterful deep house fashion.

A pair of captivating remixes accompany “You,” with the first provided by the Mumbai-based Priyesh who previously appeared on the Wind Horse Records New Breed Sampler. Priyesh takes things deeper and smoother, developing a warm, sub bass swing under layers of intoxicating pads and lush effects. Next up, renowned British house music producer Harold Heath (Savoir Faire Musique, Lost My Dog) retools “You” into a bouncing late night gem, complete with a techno-style bass line, washes of windswept tones, and a disco-tinged beat. Groovy isn’t the half of it … and together these three tracks continue Wind Horse Records’ run of high quality singles, ideal for the DJ and house music fan alike.
