Eko Chamber – I Wish

philipoke

Here’s some experimental ambient from Eko Chamber (Philip Oke) a precocious youngster, who proclaims ” i make music i am a tall human being.” Clearly evidence was needed. That is the picture at the top of his post. He says he’s 6’2″, which if true, and let’s face it, that picture’s hardly definitive, would put him in something like the 95th centile for height.

He has also offered:

gender: #MALE. The greatest gender, we fucking rule (women are sometimes allowed in our super awesome club to) [sic]
snark level: UK comedian level snark
album of #RIGHTNOW: These New Puritans – Field of Reeds
album of #FOREVER: Talking Head – Remain In Light (funky as fuck)
my music: i like boards of canada, so i rip them off like everyone else
Not going to win many friends with the opposite sex. But he’s also done Ted’s Top Ten Quiz:

1. Oakenfold or Weatherall? Oakenfold

2. Real Instruments or Synthesisers? Why not have both?

3. Dance or Indie? Indie by day, dance by night.

4. Beer or Coffee? Fanta. The only drink worth caring about. Gods soft orange based beverage gift to the earth.  The Lebron James of Soft Drinks

5. Crewe Railway Station or Barton Travel Lodge? Crewe, no hesitation. Best place.

6. Death or Disco? Disco. Until I die. And beyond.

7. Haggis or Balti? Balti is alright. Never tried Haggis, but I might give it a shot.

8. Sonic Youth or Velvet Underground? It’s basically ‘Heroin’ vs ‘Teen Age Riot’. Sorry Thurston

9. 808 or 303? 909

10. Ambient or Techno? I love Aphex Twin. I love Windowlicker. But I also love Selected Ambient Works Vol II. So Both I guess

And the tune? I Wish is perhaps a reflection of the answer to question 10, in that it has some of the pastoral analogue loveliness of Boards of Canada and the atonal wilfulness of Aphex Twin. But nothing so much as to make it unpleasant. It’s quite an accomplished track.
