Finitribe – Detestimony (Tauchsieder Mix)

frenchfini

On Saturday, I had news that Finitribe’s classic DeTestimony was getting re-released. It comes with a series of new remixes, and here is one of those, from Tauchsieder. I also contacted Frenchbloke (one-third of Tauchsieder, with Innes and Soundhog) about the mix.

I asked Frenchbloke (more here) about Finitribe and how he got involved with the remixes. Stuart said:

I’ve been a Fini fan since 87ish. See the photo evidence [top of the page] – the badge, the long-sleeve t-shirt and the finiflex jacket (which I still have). It’s not the first time I’ve remixed them either – I demo’d a remix for Sunshine only for them to split the week after. I’ve known Davey [David Miller], John & Phil since 88/89. Davey was involved in the f&s we are back mix as well.

DeTestimony is one of my favourite tracks (regardless of version) and to be asked to remix it was a great honour. We approached it several times until settling on the final mix which has been described as ‘banging’. We’re happy with it and so are the Finis.

And Tauchsieder finally got together in the same place during the last Dark Outside broadcast. This is one of the few photos of us all together, albeit probably not the best one. [you’re not kidding – what a scary looking trio]

So, what of the mix? For a start, it’s Stuart and Ben Soundhog only this time. Tauchsieder’s one and only album – Louder – was an awkward ambient affair, so it is a bit of a surprise to find that the remix is, as Stuart promises, ‘banging’. The New Beat side of the original is removed. The drums get crisper and crunchier. The pace gets dialled up to frantic. And the bells become a bit less important than the synth line. As Stuart said previously, “started off as a hi-nrg mix but we got carried away.” They did indeed. An excellent remix.

Blurb: Re-release of DeTestimony on limited edition 12” vinyl on 20th January, followed by a digital edition one month later – the complete package of both formats will feature brand new mixes by Justin Robertson, Optimo, Robot 84, John Vick, Graeme Massey 808 State, Tauchsieder.

  1. Awesome rework – looking forward to the full remix package. Can’t argue with the choice of producers.
