Resisting the urge to lose control

IMG_1247

Yeah, I’m sorry about the rather reflective, downbeat nature of the posts over the last few days. No more psycho-management theories to wrestle with today. Just music.

First, Suffix. He’s a new producer who’s been praised by Annie Mac. But he needs to lose the baseball cap – I can’t be doing with it. Meanwhile, the music is really interesting. There are pop house elements and a bit of garage but with a buzzing bass and xylophone melody that keeps everything fresh and a touch off-balance. That’s added to by the contrasts provided between a soulful vocal and ragga elements. Hardly the usual sort of thing I have here but it all works. Free download.

Blurb: Suffix returns with a belting 3 track EP titled “Lose Control” straight out the gate from his recent success with his debut EP “I Need You”. Continuing to supply warm deep vibes that centre the soul and guarantee to filter away those winter blues. The title track “Lose Control” brings you in gently with an alluring fizzy synth accompanied by soft percussive hits that set the scene for the EP. The bottom end sneaks in and around the main synths and then drops into a pool of bells while the track builds into the first drop. Suffixes trademark “vocal sampling” becomes apparent over the course of the EP, with his carefully structured “call and answer” techniques that flow throughout each track, telling the story. Its also apparent he has clear musicianship shown in “South Central sunrise”, he manages to use obvious sounds, but brings new life to them through his skillful arrangements. “Concrete Romance” shows a complete new side to Suffix from previous tracks. This one is aimed solely at the dance floor and offers DJs the chance to test his sounds out through a system with the “Suffix” take on current 4/4.

Second, yet another release on 12-3 Recordings. This is Trust Orchestra back with three beefy, bassy tracks. Signature is a slow weighty house track that self-confidently doesn’t need to give you a big drop or frenetic pace to maintain your interest. Exhalation has the Darth Vader thing going on vaguely in the background. It too throws its bass weight around confidently whilst maintaining a house stance. Bruckout is a different kettle of fish – full of echo and tin drum.

About: Trust Orchestra returns with a first full EP for us at TwelveThree, the sound being somewhat developped, there’s still plenty of that weighty, fat, rooted and rolling in this release. The Signature EP comes packed with three productions that fit our catalogue perfectly. Exhalation and Signature are sibling tracks, more or less, pulsating and pumping with plenty of that juicy low end, while Bruckout takes another direction, a proper laid out, wide-and-big club rhinestone, toms and all. Massive rather than sharp, we enter a world of spooky, multi-layered vocal tracks and pumping house, trust! Ruben
