Larry Levan who?
The 80s was all about indie for me. It wasn’t until the 90s that I got into dance. All that transition from disco and garage to house passed me by. The whole New York party thing never grabbed me, still doesn’t. All too arty and Emperor’s new clothes.
Larry Levan is therefore someone who name is kinda familiar but of whom I know pretty much nothing. His Wiki’s pretty good and his demise feels sadly predictable. Likewise, The Joubert Singers are unknown to me but also date from that mid-80s period. Their Stand on the Word track from 1985 got remixed by Levan and has now had a new remix from Manu El Chino. He gives it a deep house remix that gives it a dub sense and respects the original. Free download.
