NEW MUSIC: KEVIN BLAKE

Something new from Kevin Blake from Ireland. His work is in the vein of Autechre and Four Tet, or even Flying Lotus. Something to listen to and a mix of unreleased material to download.

Ten Past Seven (Johnston’s Cows – Kevin Blake Mix) this is my favourite of the two featured tracks. It has fractured and chopped guitar evoking Four Tet’s folktronica moments on Rounds and Paws. But it also has a tension that stops it becoming wishy-washy. And it ends with some bass heavy sounds. One for home listening.

Heck No described as ‘gurnstep’ this is aimed squarely at the dance floor. But a very wonky dancefloor. Remeniscent of a blend of Autechre and Aphex Twin. This has a long punchy, bleepy start before wrong-footing with a breakdown that almost brings it skidding to a halt. The final section almost becomes bleepily conventional. But not quite.

Of the downloadable mix, Kevin says “It’s all live unreleased material in the vein of artists like Flying Lotus, Kuedo, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Boards of Canada etc.”
