The Modes of Larry Jefferson
It’s been quite a while since we had anything from Detroit techno adventurer Larry Jefferson (albeit that he’s from Yorkshire). But he back with his new Modes single.
Modes is a lovely upfront techno track. Thee are strings but they are required to service the beats. The mood still tends toward the pastoral of Ultramarine but the neo-clarinet sound and burbling acid line carries the tune along. For solo discos on the beach, with the wind in your hair and the sting of the cold rippling waves lapping at your feet.
The B side, Maud, is a more reflective downtempo tune, drawing mostly on a dub techno attitude. Chilling with a cheese sandwich, this one.
The pair are only 50p to buy, so please draw your tartan picnic blanket over your knees and show your support.
