I don’t know what the right response is to what’s going on in Syria. We have Syrian friends who left Aleppo early and talk occasionally about what it was but never about what it is. Eyeless in Damascus is the experimental music project of Syrian musician and visual artist Adnan Samman. I’ve no idea the extent to which his work relates to that background but there’s a gentle dreaminess to his work.

He’s now based in Amman, Jordan and says “I try to focus on creating landscapes, places, visions, stories .. not just sound.” It’s hard not to reflect that the soft ambient sound is of a place, a landscape at peace. Although his own reading of the track – Post Broken-Hearted – is “The track, to me, is the sound of modern broken hearts. ” The track is taken from his forthcoming album Intro to Sexwave which has as its central theme online romance. I can only look forward to it.
