White Sand Marrakech #deephouse #electronic #downtempo

A couple of tracks from Karmaâ and The Invisible People that owe more than a little to North Africa in their approach to deep house.

France’s Karmaâ goes for White Sands and a snake charmer’s introduction. Is the instrument a shawm? Whatever, it just about avoids descending into travel show music by bringing in the beats and allowing a synth to take over. The tune continues its descent through a harder sounding bass synth that dissolves into inner space. This excellent tune is left is lost in the desert until the snake charmer returns. Free download.

Next, The Invisible People and Marrakech. This also starts with a north African instument, but it’s a stringed one (Oud or Kora?). The track is from the Searching For Depth EP. The strings are used to build up anticipation. The tune adds electronics but these never overwhelm the sense of place. They sit as adornments in what is a firmly world music tune. It’s a lovely chilled tune.
