Once upon a time at 4am I’d still be raving, worrying about the state of D’s ear drums as she forged her path to the bass bin. 4am conversations would be the mix of the messed up and the misheard. Like so many others, 4am conversations are now a mix of I’m thirsty, put the duvet back on my bed or the evergreen the beds wet can I sleep with you. For those who aren’t encumbed by such offspring embraces here a couple of darker ambient tunes from eschaton don and bloodkneeves for your late nights.

A return after 24hrs for eschaton don with clear skies ahead. Midwestern ambient but with an underlying bass buzz of paranoia. The clouds here aren’t llttle or fluffy. They’re dark, menacing and rolling in across the plain. Stratocumulus perlucidus at a guess. Never quite results in the storm that the tune implies as the synths help lift into the rosy fingered dawn. A new daty, a new dawn, clear skies ag=head.

Germany’s bloodkneeves offers 4am Conversations. A three minute ambient clatter with soft piano chords and a background vocal that is set far enough back to confuse as to meaning. The vocals give an otherwise standard clattering beat pattern a welcome splash of psychedelia. A grooving ambient tune that feels happily under the influence. Of what, I cannot say.
