30 years of acid house: Premiere of Johan Agebjörn mixtape #acid #house #techno

There should be a lot of people doing their “Where were you in ’88?” thing, given it’s 30 years since the second summmer of love.  All pretending they were at Ibiza, Shoom or whatever. But there was more than rave and primitive acid to these things.

Here’s a different take for your Bank Holiday afternoon, focusing on the synth, Italo disco, trance and even (whisper it quietly) pop elements. Johan Agebjörn offers that different spin with his fabulous The Biot Watcher mixtape of the time (roughly) for this blog. Opens with the suitably 80s sounding Sheik Sphere Deep Freeze before moving on to the Pet Shop Boys and the magisterial KLF. We then get some Sueno Latino because you couldn’t not. A whole synth section of Kraftwerk, Moroder and Moby before concluding with the conrinuation of the past into the present and Vince Watson’s Via (Sun Rising Mix) from his 2018 album Via. The circle shall be completed, eh?

The mix includes a number of his own edits, of which this is the pick:
