Who is our Future Self? #House #Unsigned #DeepHouse

What would we think if we could see our future selves? What would the person 15 years ago think of me now? What would I think of the person 15 years from now? Are we destined to disappointment or pleasure?

Whichever is your personal perspective is probably a function of your essential disposition. I always think that the world’s going to hell in a handcart. Currently, I’m being proved right. Future Self thinks things can be better. Here’s a couple of tracks of wonderfully optimistic deep house to enjoy from Future Self.

Future Self is Jan Warner who started his music career in a Swedish suburb in 1988. He has produced music for Swedish Radio, soundtracks for games and his track Response received support from Carl Cox who included it on his Space Ibiza Ten Year anniversary album. Living in Bristol since 2010, he released his debut album Atlas in 2013. After having kids and taking a break from the music scene, he is rebooting his music career as Future Self. And so to the tracks.

Enceladeus is deep house track appearing on Stress Records. It’s a track of cosmic dimensions that urges you to look up and out, rather than down and within. It’s filled with pulsating deep house joy and revels in wild doses of optimism. It’s named after the sixth moon of Saturn (also the Gigantes of Greek mythology) so aims big. Very big. This is electronic music as a clarion call for a better future.

The second track (clip) is the unsigned Yellow Light. It’s a more leftfield affair. It blends deep house with a bit of Afro tech house blankness and even a smidge of R&B vocal addition. It’s a lush production that chugs away. This is music determined to make you forget the here and now. This is dreamtime music. The synths curl tendrils round the mind urging you to forget your troubles. They don’t matter. The washing doesn’t matter. The economy tanking doesn’t matter. Social distancing doesn’t matter. All that matters is the beats and the rippling sounds. Give your self up here.

  1. These two songs take me back to sunrise in the bush with good people. I checked out his spotify too, plenty of great material for a good time!
