Domestic Scene’s Ephemera is a contrast between the beauty of ambient and the clatter of IDM. A tension never fully resolved.
Domestic Scene is American-born Michael Knorr, currently resident in Heidelberg, Germany. After the end of his former band Smallspace, Michael took a long hiatus from making music. Returning to music production, Michael found inspiration exploring the possibilities of home based recording technology using a hybrid digital/analogue production style. And that’s what you get here. Clattering drums set an edgy tone of skittering patterns and textures. Then synths come to smooth over the rough edges. Or at least they attempt to. The drums cannot be silenced, no matter how hard the synths strain for drone and calm. It’s all eerily beautiful.
