Back to (old) school with: P!lot – Illusion #House #Breakbeat @pilot_audio
From London comes P!lot, a young producer dabbling in old school house music. And on Illusion he gets it spot on.
The 90s were great. Don’t get me wrong. But that’s not where I want to get stuck. That the title of this blog is Acid Ted is no coincidence. But sometimes new producers get inspiration from those times and produce a lovely rush of endorphins. P!lot has done just that. Illusion is a lovely rush of blood to the head and a dreamy cast back.
Illusion starts with some breakbeats that verge on Funky Drummer. But then it switches into ethereal that has more than a little Papua New Guinea about it. If you’re going to pick reference points you could do a lot worse than that classic. P!lot manages to sustain a balance between the earthy beats and the more soaring wordless vocals. And then it darts off in a different direction with rippling synths that adds something welcome and new to the mix. Fabulous journey to start your week.
