Ambient Sunday with: Haquin x Zaid Al-Nayazi, and Olafur Arnalds x Trip Tease #Ambient #Downtempo #House

Something meditative and something organic from Haquin x Zaid Al-Nayazi, and Olafur Arnalds x Trip Tease.

Let’s start with something meditative from Haquin x Zaid Al-Nayazi. Haquin is a music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer from Edinburgh, Scotland. Also from Scotland, Zaid Al-Nayazi is a Scottish/Iraqi musician based in Edinburgh. Most of Haquin’s stuff has that meditative air. And the track today is perfectly in line with that. Here’s Acorn taken from the Ancients EP.

Acorn is, “based around the idea of the growth of an acorn in to an ancient oak tree.” The opening section is full of drone and tense strings. A little bit of unfurling sound. And then spreading out. In so doing it maintains a lovely stately delicacy from the strings and underlying drone. Magisterial.

Norway’s Olafur Arnalds doesn’t really need any introduction. His track Brot has a Trip Tease remix. Trip Tease is Mexican producer Carlos Salame. This remix is described as a, “Remix I did for Olafur Arnalds, authorized by him but not official.” Whatever the status, this is beautiful.

A set of keening strings open before broken beats come along. The whole thing is a gentle uplifting piece of organic house that takes the original to a less formal place. It casually shuffles its way along with bass and beats offering the structure of wholemeal and the strings the heartwarming smell of fresh toast. I think it’s time for my breakfast.

And here’s the original track
