Are you ready for your daily chill? Here’s Evil Needle and ERAAN with your daily dose #StudyBeats #Chill #Electronic #Downtempo

One of those mornings where the fog of tiredness won’t quite lift. Even after I’m two coffees in. Let’s give in to the fatigue and snuggle back down under the duvet with Evil Needle and ERAAN.

Evil Needle is a French German DJ, now beatmaker, who has been around since the turn of the millennium. The track is Cruising, which opens new release Sound Escapes. It’s billed as, “a sunshine tape that feels like cruising down the open road.” To be honest Cruising is so chilled it would get a ticket for going too slow. This is less cruising and more snoozing. And it’s all the better for it. There are synthetic hip hop beats. But what really sets this track apart is a delicious use of xylophone and an almost flute like repeated refrain. Gives the whole thing a warm and summery vibe. Since this month in England has been the wettest on record that’s a bonus. Super track.

Staying in Europe with London-based producer ERAAN. He describes himself as, “equipped with a Roland sampler, guitar and as many synths as he can borrow.” He looks to both the LA Beat scene and old school cinematic jazz for influences.

And you get all of that on CREEP. This opens with a long field recording giving it a cinematic feel before the beats and guitar come in. There’s a tension between the gentle guitar and brass and the grittily urban crunch of the beats. Piano keys may tinkle but there are mean streets and dangers lurking in alleyways. That’s accentuated by some tense experimental electronic metallic sounds that weave their way through in a slightly off stage menace. A really inventive track.
