As the world turns stress inducing, a soundtrack: Fthmlss – Anxious #Chill #Downtempo

Everything feels turned upside down by Ukraine. Doomscrolling is the order of the day. But that just adds a gnawing dread to things. That makes Fthmlss’ Anxious the perfect soundtrack.

Fthmlss is a Manchester-based producer and vowel dodger. The artist’s name is a compressed version of Fathomless. Anxious is the second single and title track from his forthcoming EP.

Anxious has a load of warming surface noise and space. Lots of it. In between the spaces are jittery beats but with a hip hop richness and essence. There’s also chopped Rhodes chords that give it a depth. A bit of disembodied vocal rounds out the mix. The beats have an almost Burial-style garage lightness and the vibes are a bit Catching Flies.

The title may be Anxious and there’s a bit of moodiness to be sure but mainly this is warm and sultry but standing in shadowy doorways beckoning you inside. Say ‘yes’ and enter Fthmlss’ world.
