A smooth House groove as DJ Seinfeld gets remixed by Trip Tease.

DJ Seinfeld is  Armand Jakobsson from Malmö, Sweden. His 2021 album Mirrors gets remixed by a bunch of people, including Trip Tease for Home Calling. Trip Tease is Mexican producer Carlos Salame whose work is mainly in pop, techno, lo-fi house, and synthwave. And you get echoes of all of that on this remix.

The original of Home Calling is a hazy, slightly melancholic electronic piece. Hardly surprising then that DJ Seinfeld says, “My dad had a stroke a few years ago which means I need to be home more to help.” The remix virtually doubles the track length and lifts it up into a place which is a load of LoFi House and a little pop, with a bit of synthwave aesthetic thrown in for good measure.

What lifts the remix somewhat away from the melancholia of the original is the light but insistent House beats as well as rippling synth lines. But with that disembodies keening vocal element reminding you of the underlying sorrow. You can escape sadness for a while but not forever. But equally, life goes on and there are moments to be enjoyed.

This remix recognises both sadness and pleasure but wants you to aim for pleasure where you can.
