On a day when a new administration takes over in the UK let’s chillax with some chilled study beats from Matt Fowler, and the return of YourFavourite.
Matt Fowler is from the US but the closest you get to a biog is from YouTube which says “My primary interests are tech, photography, audio recording/production, and personal finance. The purpose of this channel is to share some of my life experiences and experiments.”
His Spotify only shows tracks from 2022 which makes the accomplished Sunny Museum even more extraordinary. Sunny Museum follows the usual study beats path of being only a shade over two minutes long. But it feels as though an awful lot is packed in such a short track.
There’s a lovely lazy set of beats that avoids being too obviously lofi with some sympathetic hi-hats. Where this track really wins is with the rippling central hook that rolls across the beats and double bass (love me a double bass). It’s pitched at an exquisite level that’s almost ticklish.

YourFavourite from Sibiu, Romania returns after a one year gap with new track Shadez on Monday.
Shadez on Monday sticks to YourFavouritre’s old school hip hop template. A really laid back summery feel. The beats are rich and deep and slow. The lead is taken by a soft jazz trumpet which gives that last-days-of-summer sensation. A little bit of tinkling alongside for added dreaminess and a vocal sample towards the end to reinforce the old school vibes.
