Ambient Sunday (slight return): Zeta Io – Backwards #AmbientTechno #MinimalTechno #Ambient #Techno

I’m clearly struggling to work out what day it is. Having posted Ambient Sunday on Saturday I’m going to have another go but with something that’s probably more techno than ambient. Here’s Zeta Io with Backwards.

Zeta Io (pronounced Eye-oh) is from Florida, USA and is the electronic artist / frontperson for the Tilt. Offered by way of biog is that Zeta Io is “a musician exploring the dissonance between intimacy and unknowing, between artifice and sincerity, between masculinity and femininity, between darkness and light, between natural and controlled structures.”

Backwards is a rather brilliant track, taken from the album Reconnaissance of Heaven. Part of that is the use of the samples discussing special relativity and space time alongside a scientific limerick. But Backwards doesn’t simply rest on the science, it’s a really fabulous piece of electronica.

For an ambient track it takes quite a beat focused approach that makes it curiously danceable. The leftfield House synths give it a riff driven quality in a minimal groove techno way. It’s casually experimental but without falling into the trap of becoming inaccessible.

Don’t be backwards in coming forwards to Heaven.
