Navigating the Bonobo/Burial intersection with: TYTHE, and Zenpaz

Here are two tracks that have a commonality of influence from Bonobo and Burial. TYTHE comes at things from the Bonobo end and Zenpaz from the Burial end.

TYTHE is Margate-based electronic music producer and DJ, Jules Peck. He first appeared in 2013 and his work has echoes of that time with a rich organic/analog feel to his output. Here’s new track Violet, taken from his One EP.

Violet is a widescreen affair. The cinematic feel doesn’t stop this being a richly satisfying track. Lots of surface noise ally to an intro of suspense and anticipation.

There’s an epiphany of trumpets, brilliantly arranged by Sam Ewens aka Night Auras. This adds to the track’s haunting quality. This, in turn, is accentuated by the dubby feel of the track.

I don’t know what the film is here. But I do know I want to see it. Lovely track.

Zenpaz (Miguel Abella) from the Philippines comes at things from more of a Burial stance. His biog says that his work was “Born out of a profound connection between spirituality and music.”

The featured track is Focused Mind, as that’s an expression of the intent here. Zenpaz says of the track that it’s “A track that I created when I was feeling really anxious and couldn’t find a solution. So I made this to calm my own mind and I hope it can do the same for my listeners.”

This track is light and lovely. A weight off anyone’s mind. There are dreamy synths with a central riff that’s part synth, part clarinet, and part brass. The beats are equally light in that fluid liquid drum and bass manner. Everything drifts and skips by turn.

More cheering than calming this is bound to leave you in a better place. Delightful.
