Monday’s graceful melodic techno from: Halina Rice – New Basis

An elegant and graceful start to the week with some wonderfully ethereal melodic techno from Halina Rice.

Halina Rice is a London-based electronic music producer and AV artist. There’s more than a little bit of Maya Jane Coles and Max Cooper at work here. It has Maya’s warmth blended with Max’s IDM delicacy. An intoxicating mix.

Here’s new track New Basis from an EP of the same name. I adore it. It opens with some muted keyboard stabs that have an orchestral echo and sense of space. Almost religious in their uplifting nature.

The beats are IDM and occasionally a bit squirty but the keyboards march on ethereally. This is melodic techno mixed with the finest IDM. This bears comparisons to the classic IDM tracks of the 90s.

Halina says of the track “There are long harmonic progressions with the feel of a classical composition but created in an electronic style. The process of creating the tracks encompasses multi-layered percussion, often derived from foley recordings, but paired with detuned synths and sampling.”

I say classically swoonsome IDM.
