Chilled road trip with: Carter Fox – Cosmic 405 (feat. Ethan Stauffer)

A change of gear today. A deliciously chilled road trip with Carter Fox.

Carter Fox is based in Philadelphia but his heart is on the west coast if new track Cosmic 405 is anything to go by. He’s been involved in music since he was young and his biog says “His style of ‘chill-fi’ music is inspired by a passion for astronomy and a deep love for video games.”

That experience is apparent on the ultra confident, ultra smooth Cosmic 405. Of its origins he says “This chillhop composition was born from the mesmerizing experience of cruising along the iconic 405 highway in California, basking in the ethereal glow of the starlit night sky (or the lights of downtown LA setting a beautiful backdrop since… it’s bright).”

The track has woozy cosmic sounding synths blended with really solid beats and a bit of retro scratching to keep it real. That may not be the worlds most unusual combination but Carter Fox makes it sound fresh through the haze applied to the star-gazing synths and the sparing addition of Ethan Stauffer’s guitar licks.
