Deep melodic techno with: -12dB – Cluster

Saturday night but I’m veering away from the dance floor for something a bit more cerebral and cosmic. Here’s -12dB with the deep majesty of some cosmic techno on Cluster.

-12dB is originally from Turin but is now based in Oslo, Norway. He’s been DJing for twenty years and making music for more than ten. Here’s Cluster, taken from the new album Half Eclipse.

Cluster is an almost improvised track, not that you know it from the immersive experience that the track presents. -12dB explains that “I explore improvisation with synthesiser in the context of techno sound. It is characterised by a deliberate search for an imperfect, unpolished state.”

What you get is techno that draws on elements of cosmic, dub, minimal and Detroit techno into a deeply chilled state. There’s a background of cosmic noise of the universe. There’s a bloop of dub bass synthesisers. Beats come in background throbs like blood in your ears.

Synths move in and out of phase but always delivering a harmonious whole. The elements have all the potential to decay into discord but that never quite happens. This is the beauty of fractals as sound. Superb techno listening experience.
