Electronica to watch the planets with: Kris Vango – Night Gardener (Nix)

the moon

Kelly may have watched the stars. But Kris Vango watches the planets. Here’s a track for Pluto’s moons.

Kris Vango is based in Berlin, Germany but originally from Australia. His aim is a bit unconventional, to say the least. His biog says “KRIS VANGO’s vision is to map and document our solar system through narrative sound, creating sonic and visual works central to each planetary body.” He’s worked his way thus far through Earth, Moon, Venus, Mercury, and Mars. Now, he’s on Pluto. From the album Pluto (Reversed) comes Night Gardener (Nix).

Of Night Gardener (Nix) he says “Song for Pluto’s moons, Nix, an electronic soundtrack for night owls.” Musically, this owes quite a debt to dub techno, through an ululating bass which dominates the track. But it is also shot through with bobbling sounds and celestial synths.

It’s all terribly calming with that dubby beat and bass heart. The synths offer a bit of slack jawed wonder at the heavenly glory. The track slowly rotates around the bass giving it a sense of wide dark space.

Pluto maybe not be visible to us on Earth without a massive telescope but its invisibility means we can use it as a focus for our dreams. This track is perfect accompaniment.
