Chilled Monday with: Ogi feel the Beat, and Chad Nathan

I’m still feeling sorry for myself with this cold, so still not up for anything too pacy. I’m sticking to chill with the always welcome Ogi feel the Beat, and another returnee Chad Nathan. I’d kinda like these two to work together.

Serbia’s chill master Ogi feel the Beat is back with a track from his new EP Chill Project. He says it’s “for people who still love old-school chillhop and chillout music.”

Let’s listen to the title track. This is a masterful track from an artist at the top of their game (shame about the cover art).

The beats are a lovely boom bap with Ogi’s usual swing, verve and lush production. This gives a warm, all encompassing sound that lets you nestle in its warm embrace.

Melodies have a jazziness but without making too much of it. It’s full of superb layers and sounds. It doesn’t bother with a central hook but still delivers that essential head nodding appeal. Superlicious.

Offering a similar level of chill is Chad Nathan on his fourth appearance in these parts. Chad is an artist and producer from South Carolina from the USA. His style tends towards electronic easy listening and late night drinking. Here’s new track s e a r c h i n g from the i s o EP.

s e a r c h i n g is classic Chad. A lonesome trumpet vies with low key piano and jazz guitar. Beats are hushed and lofi. The guitar and the trumpet alternate as leads here, allowing the rest of the track to drift on around them. The time is late and the mood is maudlin.

Whatever you’re searching for left some time ago. But there’s always the bottom of the glass and your thoughts to explore.

The plaintive trumpet delivers a sad commentary as the beat roll on towards morning. Just you, your thoughts and the ache of the tune is all that remains. Brilliantly sad.
