Jazz and healthcare with: Don Gog – Tilt

Late night jazzy hip hop with a message from Don Gog.

Don Gog is from Sweden, perhaps Peter Svensson from Stockholm/Gothenburg. But who knows. The accompanying blurb says “‘Don Gog’ is the latest project from an anonymous hip-hop and electronica producer, where they focus on blending music and visuals together in an artistic trip-hop fusion. By keeping the identity of ‘Don Gog’ ambiguous, they are able to focus more on the art as opposed to the person behind it.”

They’ve a new Cybernetics EP out now, from which featured track Tilt is taken. And it’s a bit of a cracker. This is old school trip hop with scratching and everything.

But it also heavily samples American comedian Jasper Redd’s TV special ‘Jazz Talk,’ and his riff on healthcare. Of the track, Don Gog said “Tilt is inspired by Jasper Redd’s thoughts about the society, the human against the society.”

Sonically, it’s a wonderfully inventive riff on everything that makes trip hop great. A central piano sample that adds drama and pathos. There’s a bit of stirring trumpet and the keeping it real scratching.

That’s not all. There’s sirens and cosmic wailing trickery. Everything that makes it gritty, urban and late night. Best trip hop track I’ve heard in aaaaages.
